We are delighted to be launching a more comprehensive Adventure and Leadership programme, building on the success and growth in popularity of our well-established expedition culture.
L4 and U4 girls will have the opportunity to participate in timetabled sessions which aim to develop self-confidence, teamwork, outdoor skills and promote a healthy relationship with the environment. L5 will also have Adventure and Leadership sessions where they will pick up key skills required to look after themselves indoors and out; building towards two summer term expeditions. The extensive programme includes a number of walks, environmental projects and other exciting activities such as sea kayaking and sailing.
In addition, the girls are expected to spend an hour a week volunteering their time in a way which benefits the community. A series of talks and workshops are planned to inform the girls about leadership and give them opportunities to put ideas into practice in team-building and problem solving activities. All of L5 will have the option to enrol in the DoE Bronze Award
and undertake a basic first aid course.
In the middle and upper school, girls can sign up to the very popular DoE programme at Silver and Gold level. Recent years have seen a huge surge in the variety of expeditions available, including walking expeditions on Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Yorkshire Dales, mountaineering trips to the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain and paddling expeditions on the River Wye and the Great Glen.
Plans are in the pipeline to offer an even greater range of adventures, including a possible Scandinavian trip and the opportunity to paddle some wilder rivers or even sea kayaking.
