Any sport that involves the basic movements of running, jumping and throwing must be easily accessible for all and that's exactly what we like to encourage at Sherborne Girls. All Girls have an opportunity to participate in all athletic events through our physical education and games programme and our links with Yeovil Olympiad Athletics Club enables our girls to train all-year round on an all-weather track. Coaching of the various events is managed by the schools' experienced athletics coaches and we have recently started a school-based multi-events club. We are encouraging girls to challenge themselves to complete a combination of sprint, jump, throw and endurance events and the aim is to help girls to discover and enjoy the various events and to become multi-dimensional athletes. And who knows, we may even find a future multi-event athlete.
During the summer term, we offer a large number of athletics fixtures to the girls. These include the annual ESAA Track and Field Schools Cup, Dorset County Championships, local school events and Regional and National Schools Championships for the girls who qualify through the stages. Girls also have an opportunity to compete for various affiliated England Athletics Clubs if they wish to.
The school has also had recent success in the British Shooting Target Sprint event with one of our students winning a silver medal at the National Championships in September 2017. She was subsequently selected into the Great Britain Target Sprint Squad and is currently involved in regular GB training camps and is now preparing for future international events.
