Cross country takes place in both the autumn and winter terms, with the majority of the fixtures from January to March. One of the highlights of the sporting calendar is the inter-house Cross Country Challenge hosted at Sherborne Castle which concludes the season.
The schools Cross Country Club is rapidly expanding and it continues to produce many strong performances. Several girls now win podium positions in the Dorset Independent Schools Cross Country Championships and the school regularly fields strong teams, in all age groups, in the various scheduled Cross Country races that occur throughout the first two terms of each year. To enjoy this activity girls do not have to be outstanding athletes, nor do they need experience of distance running.
There is a friendly running club that meets twice a week and caters for all ages and abilities. For those aiming higher, there are specific training sessions which prepare girls for competitive running. In addition, the school has excellent links with Wimborne Athletics Club where the girls are able to attend regular coaching sessions and receive expert advice and guidance.
Sherborne Girls achieved notable success this year winning the 2014-15 Senior and Intermediate Girls' Dorset Independent Schools Cross Country Cup.
