      Dance

We offer classes to train in ballet, jazz and tap dance.

      Ballet

Classical ballet is exciting, demanding and inspiring. Students benefit greatly from classical ballet training with improved confidence, improved strength in muscles especially in the legs, feet and torso, increased stamina, greater flexibility, better balance and control, improved co-ordination and better posture.

At Sherborne Girls we teach The Royal Academy of Dance ballet graded syllabus (grades 5 to 8) and the vocational graded syllabus (intermediate foundation, intermediate and advanced level).

Classes are available throughout the year in our purpose-built dance studio. Sessions are weekly for 40 minutes.

      Jazz

The street jazz dance classes are an energetic, fun and exciting way to keep fit. Throughout each term we aim to increase muscle tone, to improve flexibility, stamina and strength while learning some great routines.

Each class begins with a warm up followed by stretching, toning and strengthening exercises. We then progress to learning combinations of steps and rhythms which we incorporate into a routine. The whole class is danced to current pop chart music.

Classes are available throughout the year in our purpose built dance studio. They run weekly for 40 minutes. Dancers work towards annual jazz awards and, with experience, have the opportunity to choreograph their own work.

      Tap

Dancers have the opportunity to attend additional classes in Yeovil through a local dance school. Girls may continue with their Royal Academy grades.

The dancing highlight of the year is the opportunity to perform in the Everybody Dance show held at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.
