All girls are required to sit an entrance examination to the school. Entry can be via the 11+ Common Entrance Examination, the 11+ Sherborne Girls’ Entrance Examination or the Scholarship Examinations. Papers in English, Mathematics and Science are required. All these examinations take place in the spring term.
Registration is the first stage of the admissions process, and shows that parents are interested in a place for their daughter at Sherborne Girls. Parents complete the registration form, pay a non-returnable fee, and thus secure a place for their daughter on the list for her year of entry (Year 7 - usually, the September after her 11th birthday). Parents normally visit the school before registration. Students will be offered the opportunity to attend a boarding taster weekend in Year 6.
Scholarships are available in the categories of Academic, Music, Art, Sport and All Rounder. These take place in January and February of Year 6 and candidates are invited for an overnight stay in the school. Scholarship candidates are exempt from Common Entrance.
Entrance examinations and Common Entrance
A number of candidates sit 11+ examinations at their prep schools. Any student who is not studying in a prep school may take either the scholarship examination or the Sherborne Girls entrance papers in English, Mathematics and Science. We request a reference from the candidate’s school to consider with the examination results.
Offer and acceptance of a place at Sherborne Girls
Places will be offered on the basis of merit. If your daughter is offered a place at Sherborne Girls, we ask you to pay a deposit and complete the parent contract form which then guarantees the place. A New Girls' pack will then be forwarded to you with all the information you need for the start of term.
