      Entry at 13+

All girls are required to sit an entrance examination to the school. Entry can be via 13+ Common Entrance Examination, the 13+ Sherborne Girls Entrance Examination or the Scholarship Examinations. The Scholarship Examinations take place in the spring term, and the Common Entrance is during the summer term.

Places will be offered on the basis of merit. If you are offered a place at Sherborne Girls, we ask you to complete the parent contract form which then guarantees the place. A New Girls' pack will then be forwarded to you with all the information you need for the start of term.

      Registration

Registration is the first stage of the admissions process and shows that parents are interested in a place for their daughter at Sherborne Girls. Parents complete the registration form, pay a non-returnable fee, and thus secure a place for their daughter on the list for her year of entry (Year 9 - usually, the September after her 13th birthday). Parents typically visit the school before registration. Recently, the list has been closed at least a year in advance, so we would advise contacting us at least three years before entry.

      Pre-assessment

Those registered for 13+ entry will be invited to a pre-assessment day when they are in Year 7. This will usually take place on a Sunday in March and is an opportunity to see the school during a busy weekend. The students will have short assessments in Maths and English and be interviewed by a senior member of staff. They will have lunch in a boarding house and join in with the Sunday activities which are taking place for the boarders in the afternoon. A question and answer session will be held for parents. We also request a preliminary report from prep schools at this stage. Following the assessment, parents and prep schools will be informed of the results, and the students will be offered places.

Students will be offered the opportunity to attend a Boarding Taster weekend during the autumn term in Year 8.

The date for the 2018 Pre-assessment will be Sunday 4 March. This will be for those registered for 13+ for 2019.

      Initial deposit

Following the pre-assessment, we will write to all parents of registered girls requesting a deposit. To confirm the place, parents pay an initial deposit, currently £1000 for UK students, and we ask them to let us know whether Sherborne Girls is their first choice school.

      Houses

All parents are asked to indicate two house preferences. House places will be allocated in the October preceding entry on receipt of the deposit payment. Some factors are taken into consideration such as siblings, daughters of old girls and registration date. We try very hard to match the house allocation with the wishes of the family but cannot guarantee to fulfil all requests.

      Scholarships

Scholarships are available in the categories of Academic, Music, Art, Sport and All Rounder. These take place in January and February of Year 8 and candidates are invited for an overnight stay in the school. Scholarship candidates are normally exempt from Common Entrance.

      Common Entrance

During Year 8, we ask prep schools for updated reports, in particular, to indicate if they have concerns about Common Entrance. Common Entrance takes place in June.

Any student who is not studying in a prep school may take either the scholarship examination or the Sherborne Girls entrance papers in English, Mathematics and Science.
