      Entry at 16+

Sherborne Girls’ aim is to admit pupils at this point of entry who will integrate happily and successfully into the existing community, enhance the sixth form and make full use of the opportunities the school offers. We typically accept about 20 new students into the sixth form each year.

Registration is the first stage of the admissions process and shows that parents are interested in a place for their daughter at Sherborne Girls. Parents complete the registration form, pay a non-returnable fee, and thus secure a place for their daughter on the list. Parents generally visit the school before registration, but this may not always be the case for sixth form entry.

      Entry requirements

Offers are usually given on the basis of school reports and predicted GCSE/IGCSE grades, but entrance papers may be required in some cases. We ask for reports from candidates' schools, so it is essential to inform them of the application.

Pupils entering the sixth form would normally be expected to achieve at least 50 points at GCSE (where A*=8, A=7, B=6, C=5) and most Heads of Department recommend at least an A grade at GCSE for a subject to be continued to A level or IB Diploma. Candidates are expected to gain five grade Bs at GCSE or the equivalent as a minimum. A level students will study at least three subjects and will also study a complementary programme. IB Diploma students will study three subjects at Higher level and three subjects at Standard level.

Please take a look at our supplement which describes Life in the Sixth Form in more detail.

      Sixth Form Scholarship

Sixth Form Scholarships are available in the categories of Academic, Art, Music or Sports Scholarships which are held each November preceding entry the following September. Art, Music and Sport Scholarship winners will also be required to meet the academic entry requirements.

Offer and acceptance of a place at Sherborne Girls

Offers are made at the beginning of December each year in line with the independent schools’ code of practice.

Places will be offered on the basis of merit. If offered a place at Sherborne Girls we ask you to pay a deposit and complete the parent contract form which then guarantees the place. A New Girls' pack will then be forwarded to you with all the information you need for the start of term.
