While the curriculum for these years is dominated by external examinations, we are proud of the enrichment and support offered to all girls ensuring they are motivated and stretched academically.
Our house-based tutor system addresses the balance between stretch and overload, in all areas of learning, both in and outside the classroom, ensuring all our girls thrive and benefit from the considerable opportunities on offer in this full-boarding environment. We are extremely proud of our consistent record of success at GCSE level.
Our curriculum encompasses a stretching and challenging core which ensures smooth transition to sixth form A Level and IB courses. It includes: English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, a modern foreign language (French, German or Spanish), Religious Studies, Science (either double award or three separate iGCSEs).
Girls may take up to three additional options to make up the recommended minimum of eight GCSEs. Options include: Art and Design, Classical Civilisation, Classical Greek, Design and Technology, Textiles Technology, Drama, Geography, History, Latin, Music or a second modern language.
In some subjects, exam boards offer different levels of entry; we routinely enter all girls for Higher Tier in all subjects. Note that all Mathematics, Science and Modern Languages are taught in divisions determined by ability/experience in that subject. Sets may be adjusted in the course of a year.
