Sherborne Girls is one of the leading hockey schools in the county and regularly represents Dorset in the West Schools Finals. The school runs seventeen teams, ranging from the prestigious Senior 1st XI to the under 12 7-a-side team competing against a variety of schools across the South West.
Girls play hockey fixtures during the autumn term at Sherborne and there are opportunities to continue hockey training in the Lent term. Block fixtures are played every Saturday against local schools, as well as some midweek matches. All girls are encouraged to play hockey when they enter the school and there are opportunities for them to progress.
The school runs an indoor hockey programme - a fast and exciting game which is very popular with the girls. Regular trainning sessions in the sports hall help improve the girls’ core skills. We regularly compete at the West of England regional finals and the U18 team reached National Finals in 2016.
Sherborne Girls are well-represented in county teams and a number of girls also play in regional squads. In 2016 one girl was chosen to attend The National High Performance Camp.
The School has successfully organised long-haul tours to Barbados, Australia, Malaysia and South Africa for the senior teams, and to Barcelona for the under 14 age group. In August 2017 we will be arranging a pre-season Senior hockey tour to Holland for two squads where there will be matches against local clubs.
