      Our governors

      Chairman
      Mr Richard Strang
      Mr Richard Strang was appointed Chairman in September 2017 having chaired the School’s Finance Committee for 8 years. He is a member of the Finance, Investment and Nominations Committees. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick & Mitchell and spent his career in investment banking as an international mergers and acquisitions specialist. He was Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Audit Committee of The Tavistock and Portland NHS Foundation Trust (a specialist mental health trust) and Board Advisor at the Devon Partnership NHS Trust. He is currently a lay member and Chair of the Audit Committee of Camden Clinical Commissioning Group.
      Vice-Chair
      Lady Plaxy Arthur

      Lady Arthur is a member of the Academic and Pastoral, Finance and Nominations Committees and she is a Foundation Trustee. After studying for a Masters in Mathematics at Oxford University she gained an MSc in Computer Science, DIC from Imperial College London and a PGCE from the University of London. Her career has been in education, teaching Maths in schools both in the UK and overseas. She was formerly a Fellow of the Mathematical Sciences Foundation at St Stephen’s College Delhi University, a Director (South Asia) for SCHOLAR India, Deputy Head of the International School Villa Amalienhof in Berlin and a tutor for OU. She also chaired the governing bodies of The British School in Delhi, and of the Berlin British School. Lady Arthur is married to a British Diplomat and has four children.

      Ms Juliet Blanch
      Ms Juliet Blanch is a member of the Finance Committee and a former parent. She is a full-time arbitrator having chaired the international dispute resolution practice at Weil, Gotshal & Manges from 2010 to 2016 and before that the international dispute resolution practice at McDermott, Will & Emery and the international arbitration practice at Norton Rose Fulbright. Juliet is a Director of the LCIA and chairs the review committee of the Energy Arbitrators List.  She has frequently given lectures on a variety of subjects, she is Vice Chair of the Oil and Gas Arbitration Club, sits on the editorial board of Dispute Resolution International and is a member of the FDI Moot Advisory Board. Juliet is on the London Advisory Board for Girls Talk and she provides consultancy for female lawyers and in particular for junior women partners. 
      Mrs Kay Brock
      Mrs Kay Brock CBE LVO DL is a member of the Finance and Nominations Committees. She is an Old Girl. Mrs Brock's final job before retirement in 2016 was as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Chief of Staff. Previously she has been Chief of Staff to six Lord Mayors of London and Assistant Private Secretary to The Queen. Throughout the 1990s she worked on economic aid to former communist countries, and was in management consultancy and Whitehall before that. She has an MBA from London Business School.
      Mrs Isabel Burke
      Mrs Isabel Burke (Dr I A C Bartlett, MB, BS, MRCGP, DRCOG, DCH) is a member of the Academic and Pastoral Committee and the Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding Children matters. She qualified in Medicine in 1981 and has been practising as a General Practitioner in Sherborne since 1985. She is an Undergraduate Tutor in General Practice with Bristol University and Committee Member of the Sherborne Learning Centre. Mrs Burke is a former parent and is also a Governor at Sherborne School.
      Dr Steven Connors

      Dr Steven Connors BA, PhD chairs the Academic and Pastoral Committee.  He is the former Headmaster of Monmouth School (2005-15) and before that was Deputy Head at Christ’s Hospital and Head of English, Housemaster of International Centre and Head of Boarding at Sevenoaks School. He is a Commoner of the New Forest and Freeman of the Haberdashers' Company.

      Mr Ian Davenport
      Mr Ian Davenport began his career as a derivatives analyst in the City before moving into teaching both at school and university level. He governs a number of other schools and is Chair of trustees at the Royal Academy for the Deaf. Formerly the Headmaster of Blundells in Devon, he  is now the Chief Executive of RNCF/SpringBoard.
      Sir Robert Fry
      Sir Robert Fry KCB CBE is a member of the Finance Committee. He is a former Royal Marine. He is chairman or advisor to a range of companies in the banking, communications and security sectors. Sir Robert is a Visiting Professor at King’s College, London University and a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University; he is also a columnist for Prospect Magazine and a trustee of Help for Heroes.
      Mr Jeremy Gordon

      Mr Jeremy Gordon is a member of the Nominations Committee. He is a Partner at Farrer & Co, Solicitors where he leads the Disputes team, specialising in trusts and estates disputes. He is a former parent of the School.

      The Rt Revd Karen Gorham

      The Rt Revd Karen Gorham is the 36th Bishop of Sherborne and the ninth in modern times. Bishop Karen holds a BA from the University of Bristol and trained for the ministry at Trinity College, Bristol. She served her title at Northallerton with Kirby Sigston in the Diocese of York from 1995 to 1999. She was ordained priest in 1996 and in 1999 went on to become Priest-in-Charge of St Paul’s, Maidstone in the Diocese of Canterbury. During this time she was also Assistant Director of Ordinands and Area Dean of Maidstone. In 2006 she became an Honorary Canon of Canterbury Cathedral. She was Archdeacon of Buckingham from 2007, a member of the Church of England General Synod for twelve years, and for the last two served as a member of the Panel of Chairs. Bishop Karen is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
      Mrs Louise Hall
      Mrs Louise Hall BA (Hons) FCISI chairs the Investment Committee. She is Head of the Charities and not-for-profit team at Investec Wealth & Investment Limited. Mrs Hall is an Old Girl and has a daughter in the School. She brings considerable experience to the Investment Committee.
      Mrs Amanda Harris

      Mrs Amanda Harris is a member of the Finance and Investment Committees having been appointed to the governors in 2014. She is an old girl. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is still working in practice as an auditor specialising in educational charities and FCA companies.

      Mr Robin Leach
      Mr Robin Leach is a senior Barrister at 3PB Barristers. He is a current parent and Governor at Sherborne Girls and is also a Governor at Sherborne School.
      Mr Rupert Pilkington
      Mr Rupert Pilkington chairs the Property Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor who, in addition to running his small family property company in Devon, specialises in dispute resolution on major industrial and commercial construction projects in Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia. He and his wife Hilary have two sons, both of whom attended Sherborne School.
      Mr Robin Price
      Mr Robin Price, MSc FRSA is a Governor and member of the Finance Committee. After an extended short-service commission in an infantry regiment, he worked for 15 years for Coats Viyella Plc, SSL Plc and the Cha Group of Companies as general manager Greater China. He is the owner and current CEO of Geelong Holdings Ltd, the largest steel storage company globally with factories in Canada, China and USA. He speaks and writes mandarin Chinese fluently. He is an Old Shirburnian, parent of two daughters at Sherborne Girls and is married to Sarah, granddaughter of the late Colonel Sir Joseph Weld, Lord Lieutenant of Dorset. He is a Liveryman of the Painters-Stainers Company.
      Mrs Ann Simon
      Mrs Ann Simon is an Old Girl and past parent. She is a member of the Academic and Pastoral Committee and the governor with responsibility for Boarding matters. She is a career management and executive coach and a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.
      The Hon Mrs Charlotte Townshend
      The Honourable Mrs Charlotte Townshend, DL  is a member of the Property Committee and is a Foundation Trustee. Her family has owned the Ilchester Estate for many generations and her great Grandmother laid the foundation stone for the School. Mrs Townshend has been a Deputy Lieutenant (Dorset) since 1999 and was High Sheriff in 2005.
      Mr Philip Ward
      Mr Philip Ward is a member of the Academic and Pastoral Committee. He has been the Headmaster of Thomas’s Clapham since September 2012. Prior to this he was Headmaster of Feltonfleet, Cobham for 12 years. Mr Ward was educated at Reigate Grammar School and Exeter University, after which he joined the staff at Uppingham, becoming the Director of PE, and then Senior Housemaster.
      Mrs Maria Wingfield Digby
      Maria Wingfield Digby is a member of the Property Committee, a Director of Mulliner Trading (Sherborne) Ltd. and Sherborne Sports and  Leisure Ltd and the governor with responsibility for Health and Safety. She has a background in agriculture and property management.  She is married to the great, great grandson of the School’s founder, Kenelm Wingfield Digby.
