      Sports Scholarship

      Sixth Form Sports Scholarship

      Assessments will take place on 6 and 7 November 2017.

      Awards of up to £3000 may be awarded per annum. Means-tested bursaries can raise considerably the effective amount of an award.

      Candidates for the sports scholarship will offer one or more sports, preferably having reached development centre, county standard or higher. Ideally, the candidate’s expertise will be in the school’s major sports and will include a winter and a summer sport. Other sports played at Sherborne Girls would be considered.

      Candidates will undertake a thorough fitness test to include sprints, sit-ups, step test and the multi-stage fitness test (for which candidates are expected to reach a minimum of level 10). They will be required to demonstrate skills and technical knowledge in their chosen sports and they will be asked to coach junior players a previously seen drill in their specialist sport.

      They are required to send a sports CV including all previous achievements and qualifications and letters of reference from two former coaches. Candidates will be interviewed by either the Headmistress or a Deputy Head and the Director of Sport.

      Award holders will have the opportunity to play sport regularly both as team members and as individuals. They will be included in the development training sessions for their chosen sports. Specialist coaches are available for a range of different sports and there is a comprehensive programme of activities and events which enhance the sporting life of the school. Award holders are expected to maintain a high standard of fitness, participate in appropriate teams and attend practices promptly. They will promote their sport by both participation in school and house matches and also by becoming involved with the coaching of younger players. Successful scholars will be expected to trial for representative sides.

      Candidates for the Sports Scholarship may not enter for the Music or Art Scholarships.

      Entrance forms must reach the School by 13 October 2017.

      Junior Sports Scholarship

      Assessments will take place between 29 January and 31 January 2018.
