Music

The music tradition at Sherborne Girls is exceptional. Many girls are accomplished Grade 8 musicians, or higher, and the range of instrumental lessons and opportunities to perform chamber music ensembles, concerts, combined orchestras and choirs are almost unrivalled. Many excellent peripatetic teachers offer a wide choice of instrumental or singing lessons.

All girls study music in the Lower School and many continue to GCSE and A Level. Nearly sixty percent of girls take individual music lessons including voice training and singing and many play in the Sherborne Schools' Symphony Orchestra, a stunning joint orchestra made up of the best musicians of the three Sherborne schools: Sherborne Girls, Sherborne School and St Antony's Leweston. As well as a junior and senior orchestra there are numerous ensembles, music master classes, two choirs, combined jazz groups and a Rock Society. The School's Music Director is committed to giving the time and dedication that outstanding musical accomplishment requires.
