Lacrosse
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and Sherborne Girls is no exception. Over the last five years Lacrosse at Sherborne Girls has taken great strides to move forward to meet the rapidly developing game.
Lacrosse Coaching
Professional Lacrosse coaches from America have been employed to help develop Lacrosse at Sherborne Girls. We have over one hundred girls participating in Lacrosse squads and that number is growing creating more teams for each age group. All girls are given Lacrosse coaching when they enter the school and are encouraged to try for teams regardless of ability or experience.
Lacrosse Tours and Tournaments
Along with regular season matches the girls also participate in Lacrosse Tours which have been to Australia, Canada and coming up in October 2008 they will travel to Spain to participate in a training camp and Tournament. There are also opportunities for players to participate in Lacrosse outside of school which many of the players seize. This includes being part of County and Territorial Teams. Recently we have also had girls who are attending the National training centre known as Centex which is a feeder into the England U19 and Senior Squads.
Sherborne Girls has also become a centre for lacrosse as well and has played host to a very successful National Schools’ Tournament in the last two years. Last year's 1st XII team saw success at the tournament by winning the Division 3 title. As well as hosting the National Schools’ Tournament, Sherborne Girls is also a site for two lacrosse summer camps which many of our players attend.
Promoting Lacrosse
Sherborne Girls has taken Lacrosse out of school and to neighbouring prep and primary schools. Our Head of Lacrosse, Katelyn Hoffman, with the help of the other American Lacrosse coach visit these schools and teach them Pop Lacrosse as well as host tournaments and clinics in which these schools can participate.
