The Houses

Upper Sixth House

Girls stay in their school houses in the L6th and then move into the superbly appointed Sixth Form House, Mulliner in their final U6th year. Thus the whole year group, of between 70 and 80, is together preparing for the transition from school to university. The organisation and management of the House is designed to facilitate that transition.  Mulliner has a gracious and beautifully appointed drawing room, large single study bedrooms, all with internet access and full laundry and kitchenette facilities adding to the sense of personal freedom experienced by sixth form students.

Mulliner is managed by a teaching Housemistress, aided by an Assistant Housemistress, a Resident Tutor and a Pastoral Care Assistant. Teachers who are Personal Tutors to Upper Sixth girls, are attached to the House.

Our 5 mixed-age Houses vary in size from 45 to 70 and accommodate girls aged 13 to 17. They are all staffed by teaching Housemistresses, Assistant Housemistresses, Pastoral Care Assistants or Resident Graduate Assistants, and Gap students. The larger Houses also have resident House Tutors. Teams of academic tutors are attached to the Houses. Older girls have single or double study bedrooms; younger ones usually sleep in cubicles within larger dormitories.

All our Houses have their own catering and domestic staff and all meals are eaten in House.

Junior House

For girls entering at 11 or 12, Aldhelmsted West, our Junior House, accommodates approximately 40 pupils. Here we aim to provide a stepping stone to our mixed-age Houses, with all the leadership and competitive advantages to be found at the top of a preparatory school, combined with the specialist teaching and facilities of a major senior school.
