In the three years since producing a South West Schools Cross-Country Champion in 2015 (Anna Perkins) the school has increased its focus on cross-country and middle distance running.  The school has seen improved results against other Dorset schools  and was the dominant girls' team in the Dorset Independent Schools Cross-Country Cup competitions and relay races in the county in the 2017/2018 season. Sherborne Girls was the best represented Dorset school at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in March 2018, despite a number of other schools in the county having greater numbers of girl pupils.

So far this season Sherborne Girls Inters have competed four times. They've won both the relay competitions they've taken part in (at St Mary's (Shaftesbury and Leweston). They were first round winners in the English Schools Cross Country Cup (at Laverstock, Salisbury) and runners-up to Millfield in the South West Regional round of the Cross Country Cup at Downside School.

There is a weekly dedicated session year-round where the elite middle distance runners work together regardless of their age. The girls also attend two evening sessions, one at school which often incorporates hill work, and a track session run by Wimborne Athletic Club in Blandford Forum.
