We are proud to share that Sophia M (M5) has been selected for the U15 Somerset Cricket performance squad travelling to Sri Lanka in 2026. This is a significant achievement that reflects her technical ability, competitive consistency, and commitment to high-performance training.
Sophia’s selection follows a strong season in which she has demonstrated impressive skill development, tactical awareness, and composure under pressure. Earning a place on an overseas county tour represents an important milestone for any young cricketer, and Sophia now joins a talented cohort preparing to test themselves in one of the world’s most respected cricketing nations.
The tour is designed to expose players to international-level cricketing environments and support their broader development as athletes and young leaders. Experiencing a country with such distinct cultural and sporting traditions offers players a valuable opportunity to build resilience, adaptability, and global awareness, qualities that are integral to modern high-performance sport.
Across the tour, Sophia and her teammates will train and compete in conditions very different from those in the UK. Subcontinental pitches, challenging climates, and unfamiliar match environments are expected to provide a demanding but highly rewarding test. The programme includes intensive coaching sessions, fixtures against local opposition, and performance analysis designed to refine technique, decision-making, and game management.
Sri Lanka’s world-renowned cricketing heritage, passionate sporting culture, and high-calibre competition will offer Sophia an exceptional platform to continue her development.
Head of Cricket, Mr Ben Watts, commented:
“Sophia’s selection is thoroughly deserved. She has shown sustained progression, a strong work ethic, and real potential. This tour will challenge and inspire her in equal measure, and we are confident she will thrive in this high-performance environment.”
