Academic Co-Curricular

Sherborne Girls is delighted to announce that Ian McClary will be joining the school leadership team as Deputy Head (Co-curricular & Planning).

Ian studied English Language and Literature at the University of St Andrews before completing his PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge. His first teaching post was at Repton School in Derbyshire, where he was promoted to Head of English. After nine years at Repton he moved to take up the post of Head of Sixth Form at Bryanston School, where he has taught for the past eight years.

Ian will be responsible for all co-curricular activities as well as trips, tours and off-site events - an essential aspect of school life at the school. Sherborne Girls believes in a healthy balance of academic rigour with a range of other interests, such as sport, music, drama, adventure and  leadership for its girls. To encourage this breadth, girls are exposed to as many opportunities as possible early on through a carousel of co-curricular activities ranging from cooking to coding and robotics.  The school recognises that personal development continues outside the classroom and its broad programme of co-curricular and enrichment opportunities helps foster essential learning attributes and life skills.

Headmistress, Dr Ruth Sullivan, commented: “We look forward to welcoming Ian when he takes up his new position in September. He was the stand-out candidate among an outstanding field of applicants. We are confident that he will bring a wealth of experience, energy and new ideas to take our co-curricular provision to the next stage of its development.”
